Weekend Recap + Before & After of DIY Mirrors!!

Hellooo everyone :)

This weekend was wonderful. You may have noticed I didn't do a
Freck Appetit this weekend, I'm starting to think perhaps I should just turn that into a "I'll post a Freck Appetit when I get a chance to try out a recipe" type of thing, rather than a committed weekend post. This weekend the post didn't work out because I didn't get the lobsters a publisher had promised that I'd get (boo, I really wanted to cook lobsters since I never have before), and brother Freck and sis-in law Freck visited the city!! It was so wonderful catching up with them and hanging out. Brother Freck is very much like me, chill, mellow, other wonderful adjectives, down to earth, his bubbly wife is as well, so I always enjoy hanging out with them. I never had a sister, but if I could have one, I'd want my sister-in-law anyway :)

Sunday, TBF had a musical themed show at a cafe near my place. We were pretty unsure as to how it'd be, but it was a great time. Aren't those the best times? You don't really have any expectations and it turns out to be a blast? Awesome. TBF also did an excellent job as usual.

Onto the Mirror DIY!

As a refresher, I grabbed two mirrors from mam and papa Freck's that they weren't using and decided to do a little rehab work to them.

Here are the two
before pictures:

And here are the
after pictures!

I think it's a hit! I like them a lot more than the gold color, that's for sure.

I cleaned the frames with a basic wetnap, cleaning cloths. I made sure the frames were dry and then covered the mirror portion with magazine pages and tape and placed the mirrors on some garbage bags. Then, I used a glossy spray paint to paint the frame. This was quite a task in my studio apartment since I didn't have much room to work with. I made sure the windows were open, but it still stunk up my apartment pretty bad. (Thanks Febreeze)

Some paint managed to creep through the magazine pages and onto the mirror. I thought the paint would be more difficult to get off, but I just grabbed a dish scrubber and some windex and went to town on the paint spots, but I made sure I was gentle so I didn't hurt the mirror.

My next task is to find a spot for the first mirror. It's pretty heavy, so I'll need to get a special hanger. As mentioned before, the second mirror's hanger is broken, so it became a little tv tray on the ottoman.

I hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Smorgasbord Thursday

A couple miscellaneous things...

Sounds like 2 or 3 magazine subscriptions are the way to go. Thanks for the advice :)

Also, don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the giveaway! I'm still trying to make up my mind!

I woke up this morning thinking it was Friday. I was very disappointed when I realized it was only Thursday and I only got about 5 1/2 hours of sleep. Awesome. Yes, I'm a baby and I can't fully function without at least 7 hours of sleep.
Is anyone watching Dancing With The Stars?? If so, how cute is Kelly Osbourne?! She tries so hard and looks great. She's lost weight, shes just so cute. Anyone with me on that one?

I would now like to share my easy and delicious go-to salsa chicken recipe. TBF and I have made this so many times now because it's so darn easy and delicious. You'll thank me.
  • Grab 2 boneless chicken breasts
  • Prep the oven to 375*
  • Prep the chicken (get rid of fat, maybe do a little meat tenderizing action)
  • Rub taco seasoning on both sides of the chicken breasts and place on lightly greased baking sheet
  • Cover chicken breasts with plenty of salsa, don't be shy, salsa isn't bad for you!
  • Bake for 20 minutes
  • Sprinkle mexican cheese blend over the chicken breasts
  • Bake for 5 more minutes
  • All done when the juices run clear!
*Super yummy with sour cream*

Totally spilled wine on my neutral fabric couch. Awesome. All fabric cleaners leave a ring. What's a Freck to do?

It's almost Friday!
Hooraayyy!!

InStyle, Real Simple, US Weekly, oh my!

What's your fav mag??

Do you only pick them up when you're traveling? When the cover is your idol? Well let me tell you, I've found that I have been picking them up lately on the weekends when I know TBF and I will be watching football or if I'll be doing a wee bit of traveling. You might be thinking, why would you want to focus on something else if you're going to be watching football? Well, I think it's because I like to be semi-productive when I'm sitting in front of the tv. I digress, my ability to not allow myself to relax and to always be doing something is for an entirely different post.

Onto the fun magazines!
InStyle, the fashionable magazine.

I'm really enjoying
InStyle right now. Yes it's full of ads but it also has some pretty great info in it. The style section is very inspiring because it's full of everyday pieces. I cut out most of the sections, put them up in my closet and I swear my office wardrobe has become so much more fashionable without even having to go purchase anything! I think I'm going to get a subscription...thoughts?

Real Simple, the responsible magazine

What about Real Simple? Hello new uses for old things sections! Although everything may not be super practical, I love the creativity anyway. I started this subscription last month :)

Us Weekly, the juicy gossip magazine

And how could we forget US weekly? What I call the most legit gossip mag compared to its competitors. Yes? I'm thinking about getting a subscription to this one, too. I feel like I spend so much money on this mag a year!

I will be traveling this weekend (for the Illini homecoming football game!) so I'll need some good literature in front of me :)
What's your favorite magazine lately?

Happy Hump Day!
