Tresemme Dry Shampoo Review

On a dry shampoo knowledge scale, I'd say I'm about an 8.5.

Yep, there are .5's on my scale.

When I saw that Tresseme was coming out with a bottle of aerosol dry shampoo, I was SO excited. A commercial dry shampoo that I could pick up in a drug store?! No way!

YES way!

So I picked up a bottle yesterday, followed the directions and tried it out.

The verdict?

I don't dig it. It may pump up the volume, but my hair felt kind of filmy and wet, even when I brushed it out. Plus, it didn't really take the grease out that had conveniently formed on my humid walk home from work (gross, but I swear my hair was in perfect condition to try this out).

My favorite is still Oscar Blandi's dry shampoo in powder form. If you dig the aerosol form, try out Oscar's, too. Not Tresseme.

No I wasn't asked to write this, just thought I'd share for my other dry shampoo lovah's :)

Happy Hump Day!

Rachel Zoe's Dry Shampoo

As some of you know, I'm always looking for a good dry shampoo. I have thin to normal hair, but I have a lot of it, so it gets greasy (ew, sorry) quickly. Dry shampoo is the best thing since sliced bread to me.

So, when I stumbled across Rachel Zoe's recommended dry shampoo, I went to the site pronto.

Cue the screeching halt.

Is it me or does this site look like a hoax?

To try or not to try?

Have you tried it?

The Poof : : A Lesson With Freck

The Progressive woman's poof bothers me. Does it bother anyone else? As a show choir alum, I know a thing or two (or a million) about poofs and hair in general.

Let me tell you how to do a great poof (WITHOUT a silly bump-it!). Pull up a chair and listen, you'll be the queen of a cute poof (nothin' crazy) in a couple easy steps like exhibit A..

Queen of the tasteful poof. Doesn't she have the most amazing hair?!

Tools:

and small hair bands similar to this - make sure to get the kind that won't hurt your hair!

OR

1. Make sure your hair is a day old so it's moldable. This may sound gross, but the baby powder or dry shampoo will take away the grease, add volume and make your hair more maneuverable. Trying to tease and mold freshly shampoo just doesn't work as well.

2. Using the teasing comb, start teasing (combing toward your scalp making your hair ratty) sections of your hair all around your head, don't forget the sides! Work in small sections, it really doesn't take long. You literally want your hair to look like you put your finger in a light socket when your finished.
Don't worry, a little conditioner in the shower will bring the rats right out!

3. Using the boar bristle brush, start smoothing over the top layer of hair over the rats. I like the bristle brush because the bristles don't reach the rats (which will comb out your beautiful teasing job), you won't lose the volume and the top section of your hair will look smooth and shiny. It won't take much pressure to smooth down that top layer of hair.

4. Once your top section is smooth, (this is when you'd want to insert a headband if you prefer) gather your hair into a low pony tail and continue smoothing down and making sure the poof is symmetrical. Feel free to swoop the front and leave some wispy pieces around your face. Bobby pins may be necessary :)

5. Once your hair is in the pony tail hair band, you can go back in with the other side of the teasing come to pull your hair out if you see some unsymmetrical sections or if you simply want the poof bigger!

6. Feel free to use a shiny hair spray or just hair spray to keep the poof in place.

Voila!!! See? You don't need a bump it!

Now you can use the poof with other hairstyles like...

the side pony

half up, half down

the bun

and a classy side bun

Good luck and feel free to email me if you have any questions!

Happy Tuesday!!

Weekend Recap

I spent the weekend in DC with TBF, his fam and friends and had a blast. Yesterday was spent recovering back home in the Chi. I’m busier than ever at work today so today’s post will be short and sweet.

It’s FREEZING today compared to what the weather was like when I left Chicago on Friday! Now it’s really starting to feel like the holidays. Turkey day is right around the corner, yikes!

Okay, not quite this cold, but it feels like it!!!

Thank you to those of you who gave your dry shampoo advice! I’m looking forward to trying them out, I just hate how pricey they all are.

Did anyone watch Dancing With The Stars last night? Man oh man, every time Kelly O danced, tears starting welling up. Ridiculous. I just love her and I really hope she makes it to the final two.

Does anyone watch Castle? It’s on right after DWTS and I always find myself getting sucked in and loving it every time.

Okay, back to work!
Happy Tuesday!

Freck's Friday Fancies XXIV

Hooray for another Friday!

Let's get on to this week's fancies, shall we??

Another
Cake Wrecks shoutout, I just can't help myself. This cake is hysterical people.

Wax flowers on a wedding cake? Yikes.

How cute is the Windows 7 girl?!?! I'm a Mac lover through and through, but this girl is just too cute.

This would spruce up my cube at work...

Urban, $14
Tutti Frutti Kate Spade purse, $goonsalepleasethanks.

Marc by Marc Jacobs $thistoopleasethanks.

I'm still on my search for a dry shampoo that works well on dark hair. I think I'm going to try out this one because it's an aerosol, which I think I like more in general, and it may blend into my dark hair easier...I'll be sure to report back about it. Has anyone tried this one??

Klorane Dry Shampoo, $18
Tommy
, that's a great question!! I've been looking at Sephora but they all seem to be so friggen expensive, however I think your right by just looking at Sephora since with dry shampoo you totally get what you pay for!

I'm off to DC tonight for the weekend, so it's a half-day at work for me today! Love me a half day. Have a great weekend everyone, tgif!!

Random Thoughts & Dry Shampoo

I'm having trouble completing sentences and thoughts today, so this post is short and sweet!

-Mama Freck ordered these boots for me last night (as an early Christmas present), so I actually ended up using the free shipping at J.Crew that I thought was bogus. Ha!

-Had to turn the word verification thingy on the comment moderator on. I know, effing annoying, but I got some ridonkulous spam about Viagra last night, not cool. I'll turn it off eventually!

-I’m going to DC tomorrow for the weekend with TBF, we’ll be visiting his dad and some friends! I’m pretty excited. Should be better than my last trip out there considering I spilled a beer on his best friend (I know, smooth) and I met most of his family and best friends on the same trip for the first time = extremely nervous Freck. This trip should be smoooooth sailin’, plus I get to see my cousins and their little baby, too. ...I just realized we'll be flying on Friday the 13th..scary..

-Getting good feedback about the hair. However, I am now in search of a dry shampoo for DARK hair. I’d found my savior, Oscar Blandi, which was perfecto for my blonde do before, but now it makes my dark locks lighter…maybe I should apply it better. Whatever, either way if anyone knows of a dark dry shampoo, shoot it my way!

-I almost forgot! Did you notice my different header? Do you like this one more or the one before with the two corks and simply "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere"?? I can't decide!!

-Does anyone else feel like these fall months are flying by? I can’t believe it’s already almost mid November!!

…it’s almost Friday!

Freck's Friday Fancies XXI

Guess what?

It's raining again in the city. I meant business this morning on my commute with my bright yellow raincoat, rainboots and umbrella. Turns out all of that just made me really hot and uncomfortable. I'll never master the rain.

Anyway, onto happier things like this weeks fancies!

TBF and I FINALLY saw The Proposal last night.

I loved it!! Ryan Reynolds impressed me (and not just with his amazing body). He can be serious and hilarious. I have such a girl crush on Sandra Bullock, I think she's so gorgeous and real.

Who watched Flash Forward
last night? I'm still digging the show, I'm also digging John Cho.
Anyone else? Eat your heart out ladies.

No? Okay, TBF is Asian...maybe that's why I dig him.

Want to know what the best dry shampoos are?

Have you seen this before and after over at Design Sponge? So amazing!

Notice anything different about the upper right part of my page? My new GREEN twitter bird for my TWITTER page!! The background on the page will probably be changing every now and then because I can't settle on one:)

Last but not least, I want to cozy up in this warm, cute sweater from Anthro!

TGIF!!!

Another Smorgasbord Post...

I know I've been MIA. Let me explain...

After a nice, long holiday weekend, my mind was officially asleep at the start of the week and I was having issues getting back into work-mode. I’ve had to think twice about the simplest things…coffee is my BFF lately.

Holiday recap: TBF and I left Chicago after work Thursday and ran into some serious traffic downtown but then coasted on home to central Illinois from there. We made a pitstop in Champaign to make an exchange (no not drugs, but a makeup bag and contacts) with my sister-in-law. It was only a pitstop because it was her and my broski’s 4 year wedding anniversary. Her car had some gorgeous flowers in them…we Freck's have nice taste..

Anyway, we spent majority of the weekend on Papa Freck’s boat and then out on “the square” in my hometown with fam and friends to have a good time and say hello to some old friends. Even though it was overcast most of the weekend, it was still a great getaway and break from the fast paced city.
It’s back to reality now though: early mornings, corporate 9-5 days and shoving in a workout here and there.

I’m getting really excited about moving in a couple weeks!! Correction: I’m dreading the actual move, but getting really excited about settling into a new place and decorating it. As some of you are aware, I have a lot of paintings to hang and decorate with so I’m hoping to find a creative and clean way to display them all. I still think this type of collage is the best idea:

The first picture displays a good strategy where they taped the same size paper as the pictures to show how it will look on the wall. Another strategy is to lay all the pictures on the floor before you hang them!

I like the idea of mixing letters and pictures into the mix…thoughts? I don't want it to look super duper busy. I want it to still look clean.. I still need to refurbish TBF’s dresser, where has time gone?!

My sunburn is slowly healing.

Does anyone love this? I want to “get stranded”..

Love.it.all.

You know what I also love? Recently I had din din and drinks with H, and she told me about her favorite dry shampoo from Sephora. Meet my (and your) new love:

Yes, I know it's a bit pricey, but I LOVE IT! Sephora, $21 for the bigger can

I used to use baby powder all the time, but it's difficult to get the white out of my blonde hair. I can't imagine how the brunettes do it! This stuff has gotten me through two days without washing my hair (sorry, tmi for those of you who shower every day, like one of TR's, but for people with weak hair like me, I can't wash it every day if I want it to be strong!!) I definitely recommend it or the powder version which is $19. Thanks, H!

That's all for me this evening...

Happy Hump Day tomorrow!!!
